Michael Crandon, MP for Coomera, is currently sponsoring a petition through Queensland Parliament that, if passed, would ensure that first time drivers licence applicants and traffic offenders would be required to attend mandatory driver training in a classroom setting.

See below for the exact petition wording:

Electors of the Division of Coomera draws to the attention of the House the need for mandatory driver classroom education for all people who are applying for a driver's licence for the first time or for those that are convicted of a traffic offence in court (for example to complete the Queensland Traffic Offenders Program - QTOP).

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend section 82 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 to make education and rehabilitation compulsory.

Queensland Residents who wish to sign the petition can do so by clicking here.
